Maternity portraits are quickly becoming my favorite type of session (and it's not just because I'm expecting my own little bundle soon). There's just something about the joy and excitement that new parents are feeling as they anticipate their baby. When will he or she get here? Whom will they look like? For Keisha's maternity session, there was even more excitement to go around because it was baby #3 and her first boy! Her husband Jacob was of course over the moon to be having a son (though he'll still be slightly outnumbered by the lovely ladies of the house). Jacob and Keisha's 2 beautiful daughters are beyond ecstatic to meet their new baby brother. They would love and protect him, play with him and teach him (and probably torture him just a little, as big sisters often do)! Keisha picked a gorgeous shade of light blue for herself and her girls, and even had a lovely Harmony necklace to match. We got the family of 4 (soon to be 5!) together in Pacific Grove at a beautiful park location for their portraits and I just loved the way the light shined through the mossy trees. It was so pretty, I definitely want to come back to this location for more sessions!
Not too long ago I held a Giveaway Contest which offered the winner a free mini portrait session and canvas of his or her favorite image. Being that it's wintertime, we had some unfortunate weather delays to scheduling our photoshoot. But we finally made it work, and I know it was worth the wait. Why would that be? Well my contest winner Sabrina and her husband Mike are expecting their first child very soon. If we'd done our photoshoot as originally planned, not only would we have been soaked by the rain, but there would not have been much baby bump to showcase. But as luck would have it, postponing just a month or so made all the difference.
It's definitely taught me to remember that age old advice, Good things are worth waiting for. Sometimes I need to be reminded to exercise patience and not rush things quite so much. Take my time and as Jack Sparrow would say, wait for the opportune moment.
I feel so honored that I got to capture such an exciting and special time in their life. Especially since I had the privilege of capturing another amazing time for them several years ago on their wedding day. I am so very excited for Sabrina and Mike as they embark on this new adventure, parenthood, and I can't wait to meet their newest addition!
Here is the Family Portraits portion of the styled session in Pacific Grove that I recently participated in. There were two beautiful families to photograph and I had so much fun with them! The three brothers were such a crackup the way they played and teased eachother.
While posed family portraits are nice to have, I always love to let the kids loose so I can capture their natural expressions. So I make sure to get a bit of both worlds, candid and posed images, during a family portrait session. It makes for a fun and less formal family album.
That's right, Mother's Day is almost upon us!
May 8th will be here before you know it, so it's time to start planning something special for the woman who gave you life, or perhaps is the mother of your children. If there's one thing that every mother I know can never get enough of, it's photos of her kids. Whether you want to surprise her with photos of the kids, or have her get in front of the camera for a change, she will truly cherish such a memorable gift!
