I absolutely loved working with the stunning Maria from Alisal High for her senior portraits. Scheduling your senior session can sometimes be a little tricky, because we're working with the school yearbook's deadline. Those senior photos (and quotes) need to be submitted on time to make it into the yearbook! But thankfully Maria called me with plenty of time to have her favorite portrait turned in.
Like many high schools, Alisal High has particular guidelines that we need to follow for choosing a yearbook photo. It should be a closely cropped portrait of your face, not a full body pose. But during my senior sessions I love to get a variety of all types of poses. After all, you only get to submit one photo to your school yearbook, but you can order as many other photos for youself as you want! Wallet sizes are great for giving to friends, as well as including inside your graduation announcements to extended family.

When we had originally emailed back and forth planning her session, I was surprised to see that Maria had already planned out several outfits to wear long in advance. Unlike myself who is usually digging through my closet and trying on everything I own up until the very last minute, she described her outfits to me before we'd even confirmed the location! As far as organization goes, I was pretty impressed! We settled on Garland Ranch in Carmel Valley because it's such a beautiful location with a variety of settings, and it was thankfully undisturbed by the Soberanes Fire!
We met in the early evening as the sun had just started to disappear behind the hills, so the natural light was nice and soft. Maria truly looked stunning and was a great model for me to direct. Some people are not always totally comfortable in front of the camera right off the bat, so it's up to me to help them relax and bring out their natural smiles. We don't mind of course, my husband Garrett finds this a great opportunity to tell some very silly jokes. But Maria seemed perfectly at ease, so we all had a great time!
