After last month's Model Call, I started planning what I hoped would be a beautiful session in a field of tall grass. I knew I wanted my model to wear a long flowing dress and for the session to have an elegant feel.... and that was about it. Yet when all was said and done I feel I got so much more than that out of it. That's one of the things I love about photography. A session can start with the simplest of ideas or concepts. And then that idea evolves into something even better, depending on where you go and who you get to work with. Melody contacted me wanting to be a part of the Model Call. and we emailed back and forth about the details. Although she sent me a cute photo of herself, I didn't get to meet her face to face until the day of the shoot. I knew I wanted Melody to look as beautiful as could be so I contacted hairstylist Aime Gruber at Jasmin Loren Salon to help. Aime was just incredible! Her work was beautiful and surprisingly fast! I knew we were going to need a little sugary fuel for the day, and It was so close to Easter that I thought we ought to celebrate in style. So I picked up some beautiful Easter-themed tasty treats from Room for Desert and Main Street Bakery. Since more is usually merrier, I invited my good friend Brenden Murphy as a second photographer so she could have some fun with us and create her own images too. Thank you Brenden for some the Behind the Scenes photos! Remember I mentioned that planned photoshoots often evolve into something unexpected? Well that definitely happened here! Melody mentioned to me that she might need to bring her daughter along to the session, and suddenly the idea center of my brain was throwing off sparks! I just had to find a way to get Melody's daughter into this session! Mother-daughter portraits, especially all dressed up, would be so wonderful! So I quickly switched gears and let Melody know that i would LOVE to photograph her daughter! Melody was so excited by this and happily her daughter Harmony was on board too. As it turned out, Harmony is a natural in front of the camera! So gorgeous and full of confidence, she was a joy to photograph! The resulting images really melted her mom's heart! I feel so grateful that I had the opportunity to create and capture some truly special moments between mother and daughter at this pivitol time in Harmony's life. It had me thinking fondly about my own mom and feeling nostalgic for my adolescence. Once we were done with the fancy part of the day, we just couldn't bare to stop taking portraits of these two! So Melody and Harmony got back into their comfortable regular clothes for just a few more mother-daughter images! I'd just like to once again thank Aime Gruber and Brenden Murphy for all their help in making this session possible and so much fun!
