Frequently Asked Questions
Before You've Booked What happens at the Portrait session? Since the Session Fee is paid in advance, you don't need to worry about bringing your wallet or checkbook. I will meet you at the time and place we decided on, and we'll go over the clothing options you've brought with you. Then we'll get started with the photo shoot! Be prepared to relax, have fun, take a little direction, and let me make you look your best! After we've finished we'll set a time for your Viewing and Ordering Session, usually about 2 weeks later, where you'll get to see your images. I know sometimes it can be hard to wait that long, but please be patient with me as I edit and retouch your images to perfection. I believe the end result will be worth the wait! How much retouching do you do? I take very special care with each of your final images during the retouching process. I want to make sure you look your very best, while still being true to the real you. So don't worry about any unfortunate blemishes, I'll get rid of them! Sometimes I do just a little bit of skin-smoothing, but not so much that you look like a plastic mannequin! Please let me know ahead of time if you have any specific requests. But completely changing what comes naturally, like hair, eyes and shirt color? I leave that kind of magic to actual wizards. |
Getting Ready for Your Portraits
What should I wear? Your clothing should reflect your current personal style. Make sure your outfits fit you well. For example, clothing that is too big often creates bulges in the fabric that would not normally be there. Try to avoid clothing with words or slogans. Bring extra outfits if you can, and I will help you choose the best looks that we'll have time for. Also, it never hurts to get your hair and makeup styled by a professional! For group portraits, your clothing does not need to match perfectly, but the colors should complement each other. After Your Viewing Session Where are the other photos that we took? I know it may seem odd that we take so many photos and you don't end up seeing every single one. However, keep in mind that I do my best to avoid blinking shots, so you may have heard the camera shutter click multiple times for the same pose, when all we need is that one perfect frame. As for the other images that did not make it into your final selection, that is simply for the reason that I didn't feel they "make the cut". There may have been a stray hair falling over your face, something distracting in the background, even a "wardrobe malfunction" happens every once in awhile! I go through all of your photos very carefully to pick out the very best, most flattering poses before retouching them. I assure you that the left over images from your session are not ones you would miss. |
What about weddings and events?
While I have photographed weddings in the past, I am currently choosing to focus my energy mainly on family portraits. I take on a limited number of intimate weddings and elopements during the year. If you are interested, please contact me for more information.
